Thank you to Pacific, Lakeland, and Joseki dojos for helping to make our first Monday Night Fight a success. As this is a work in progress, we are making a couple of changes. In July we are moving the date from July 1st to July 8th. This was done due to a scheduling conflict with the Junior Olympics. Also, we are opening the refereeing up to anyone, Green Belt and above. If you are interested in refereeing, and want to try your hand at it. Here is your chance.
Members of Spokane Judo fought hard and well Saturday at the WA State Judo Championships.
Everyone demonstrated great sportsmanship and showcased awesome technique – well done!
We are proud to have you represent our club.
Zach and Jason are gaining valuable tournament experience and learning a lot – each time they compete they get better.
Marigold rocked her second tournament with medals in two separate divisions – go Marigold! WA State Champ in one division, Silver in the other.
Ryan ruled the mat with both randori and newaza! WA State Champ in his division too!
Montana‘s first tournament after some time away from the mat showed you can’t keep a good fighter down – he took Silver in his division
Mike fought hard and acquitted himself well, attempting to execute a variety of techniques – great fighting Mike!
Hal did outstanding in his first tournament (and he had fun cutting weight), taking second in his division.
Taylor won his first match with a beautiful ippon, then in a freak competition accident during his second match sustained a broken elbow.
The store selling the shirts and jackets will be closing on March 10th. The estimated delivery date to us is March 26th. We plan on delivering them to the dojo at practice March 29th. Once the store is closed, it probably will be sometime in the fall before we reopen it. If you plan to wear any Spokane Judo apparel to either Washington State, to Inland Empire Tournaments, or over the summer, now is the time to get it!
The store link is here.
Spokane Judo Club is also now selling knitted stocking caps, with Spokane Judo Club professionally embroidered on them. Caps are $15 and come in the following colors: Athletic Red, Athletic Oxford (Gray), Athletic Green, Athletic Purple, Navy, Black, and Neon Pink. Available thread colors are: Red, Black, White, Gray, and Oriental Gold. Caps and threads may be mixed and matched in different combinations, however, only one cap color and one thread color may be picked per cap.
Examples of the colors and the order forms are posted on the wall at the dojo. This store will be closing on March 15th. That means that all the orders will need to be turned in, and prepaid to the club by the 15th. When the order is delivered to us, we will deliver it to the dojo. Once we have a proposed delivery date, we will pass it on.

The holiday season is upon us! We hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving. We had a hard practice on Monday to build up our appetite for Thursday.
Spokane Judo will be taking Thursday off for Thanksgiving. Pacific Judo invited us to their practice this evening, if you just can’t live without a second Judo class this week. They practice at 2302 N Waterworks St in Spokane.
We also will be taking this Saturday November 24th off.
Normal practice schedule will resume Monday November 26th with our kids class at 6:00 pm and the Adult/Advanced class at 7:00 pm.
Incidentally, our kid’s class has been a huge success! Great time to start Judo for ages 5+
We are pleased to announce a kids only Judo class starting November 1st. Kids love Judo, and they get so much out of it in terms of fitness, discipline, a sense of accomplishment, and good skills that can help them their whole life for conflict resolution and self defense.
Our old kids class ran alongside our adult class. This unfortunately meant kids had a two hour long class, which just kept too many kids out too late. Also, they don’t get as much individual attention and targeted learning from the Sensei. With this new kids class, in only an hour from 6-7 PM on Monday and Thursday, they can get in and learn Judo while also having fun and being home in time for bed and a busy school day the next day.
Judo costs $30/month for one student, or $40/month for an entire family (including adults), which is about the best value in martial arts you can find.
The kids class takes students age six and older, and runs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The advanced / adult class will run immediately after the kids class from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Classes are Monday and Thursday.
There is an additional advanced / adult only class on Saturday mornings from 9:00 until 11:00 AM
For more information, contact the Brett Lewis head Sensei at: 509-995-6434 or email: email@example.com
We had a great practice on Monday, covering tate-shiho-gatame (pin #6) and it’s escapes. Also Sensei Tim taught us De Ashi Barai. Some great newaza too!
The mats have all been re-laid out and re-taped, the kids are getting quite good with their pins, everyone is doing better with their falls…
Also, a special thanks to Mike for updating our website design!
Should be a great month!
For competitors looking at the Rainier cup on October 20th on the west side, please make sure you talk to Sensei Brett or Sensei Anna Marie to make sure you have all the right information and to get sign-off to compete. We will post the entry packet soon.
All, due to the tournament we won’t have practice on Saturday. Hope to see you at the tournament!
Also don’t forget Monday is Memorial Day and we won’t be having practice so please spend time with your families and doing push-ups.
Our next practice will be next Thursday May 31st.
