Spokane Judo Re-Opening Plans

You need to be current with USJF.

You need to bring proof (digital card/receipt) you are current if you renew after April 30th.

Practice opens Monday, May 3rd – Adults only, practice starts at 6:30.

Practice beginning Monday, May 10th – Kids from 6:30-7:30; Adults only, 7:30-9.

Brett met with Chris from Lilac City Fit Body Boot Camp; Allen talked to James Weed (Newborn Jiu Jitsu). Based on these conversations, here is what we need to do:

  1. Wait in cars or line up outside the building until 6:30.
  2. Masks are required to enter the Dojo. No mask, no entry.
Regrettably, masks must be worn at all times – even when practicing on the mat.
Sadly yes, we will practice wearing masks. I know.

This is in accordance with WA state guidelines and follows James Weed’s practice. WA state guidelines are linked on our site; relevant sections can be found on page 8.
  3. Temperatures will be taken upon entry. People with temps over 100 won’t be admitted.
  4. You will initial an attendance log indicating you have no CoVID symptoms and have not been around sick people. At some point, we’ll have a QR code we can scan.
  5. You’ll hand sanitize upon entering the dojo.
  6. If you can come in your gi, great. You can use the locker room, but only to quickly change (no visiting after practice in the locker room).
  7. After practice we need to wipe down mats with an alcohol solution.

Other matters: Promotions from last spring will be held on Thursday, May 20th.

Christmas Party December 14th!

Hey all, the Christmas party with be at Sensei Allen’s house from 4 – 7 pm this Saturday.

We would love to see everyone, new to Judo, considering Judo, or who haven’t come to see us for awhile.

This is a potluck, I’ll cook some pulled pork (Christmas pulled pork?), and I invite others to bring dishes, desserts and drinks.

We will put the most recent Judo championship on the big screen, and my daughter will be helping kids make holiday smores at the fire pit.

OK here is how you get there, and pay attention because your GPS will lie to you. The address is 3201 w 7th, but the house is NOT on 7th (there IS no 7th). From our Judo club, head west on 2nd, turning into Sunset Blvd, until Government way (Turn right), a block or two later turn left onto Hartson, continue under the train bridge, then turn Left on Substitute.

Park on substitute street, and The house will be uphill to your right. Walk up carefully the stone steps to the house!

call me at 509-279-4212 if you get lost. And for goodness sakes, don’t use your phone GPS and get lost.

Monday Night Fights a Success

Thank you to Pacific, Lakeland, and Joseki dojos for helping to make our first Monday Night Fight a success. As this is a work in progress, we are making a couple of changes. In July we are moving the date from July 1st to July 8th. This was done due to a scheduling conflict with the Junior Olympics. Also, we are opening the refereeing up to anyone, Green Belt and above. If you are interested in refereeing, and want to try your hand at it. Here is your chance.

Results: WA State Championships

Members of Spokane Judo fought hard and well Saturday at the WA State Judo Championships.
Everyone demonstrated great sportsmanship and showcased awesome technique – well done!
We are proud to have you represent our club.

Zach and Jason are gaining valuable tournament experience and learning a lot – each time they compete they get better.
Marigold rocked her second tournament with medals in two separate divisions – go Marigold! WA State Champ in one division, Silver in the other.
Ryan ruled the mat with both randori and newaza! WA State Champ in his division too!
Montana‘s first tournament after some time away from the mat showed you can’t keep a good fighter down – he took Silver in his division

Mike fought hard and acquitted himself well, attempting to execute a variety of techniques – great fighting Mike!
Hal did outstanding in his first tournament (and he had fun cutting weight), taking second in his division.
Taylor won his first match with a beautiful ippon, then in a freak competition accident during his second match sustained a broken elbow.

Again, the club has much to be proud of ~ thanks to all those who challenged themselves to compete!

Ryan taking first
Marigold taking first
