  • Upcoming Events

Just wanted to update everyone on some upcoming judo events in the Northwest.
First, Portland Judo is hosting a clinic with Mike Swain, World Champion and 4 X Olympian on Friday 9/15. This is short notice, but he is an excellent instructor and well worth attending if you can. Info is here.

Second, on 9/23 Budokan will be holding their tournament. The entry form is here.

Third, on 9/30, there is a kata workshop for judges along with the 4th annual Pacific NW kata championship sponsored by Seattle Dojo. I don’t think we have anyone ready for this yet, but keep this type of event in mind as an option. Kata will definitely help all aspects of your judo.

Finally, on 10/7 the Rainier cup will be held in Lakewood, Wa. This is always a good tournament.
    The entry form is here.

  • Community Center Closed for Labor Day

Just a reminder that the community center is closed on Monday 9/4 for Labor day.
Everyone should rest up and come to practice on Wednesday ready to workout!

  • Myles Freeman Promotion

I wanted to congratulate Myles Freeman on his successful promotion test for purple belt. He had a large number of techniques to demonstrate and he did an excellent job.
With this promotion comes increased expectations. Myles will have to accept more responsibilities. He is definitely up to the task!

  • Judo on TV in Spokane

Yesterday, FOX had a great interview with some of the people at Pacific Judo about judo in general and the upcoming Junior Olympics.
You can watch the interview here.

It is definitely worth checking it out.

  • Obukan Tournament Results

Chris and Ben Mitchell competed this weekend in Portland. Both of them did very well. Chris took 1st in the Masters division. In addition, Allen Monroe worked refereeing the tournament. All of them definitely made the rest of us at Spokane Judo look extremely good.

  • Despite the weather, self defense workshop was great

We had a good turn out last night even though it was miserable out!

I wanted to thank all the Spokane Judo members who came out and supported the club.
Sensei Allen, Rya, Myles Freeman, Chris Mitchell, normal sized Mike Smith, big Mike Smith (the man in the suit), Sensei Oleg, and Sensei Anna Marie.
Particular thanks to Sensei Rich and Sensei John, without their expertise the class wouldn’t have been possible.

The club is only as good as its members and last night the club looked great!
